jayhawks headed to the big apple

Welcome!

This will be a blog that chronicles the University of Kansas Fieldwork in Magazines class' journey to New York City. Each of the nine students who will be traveling there have internships at various magazines, including Real Simple, Redbook, Nylon, Details, Shape, Time Out New York, In Style, The Knot and Women's Health.

The internships vary in length, but most of us will be in New York City from January 2 to January 19, give or take a few days.

Fieldwork in Magazines is a 600-hundred level class only offered in the fall and is taught by Journalism school professor Carol Holstead. With about 20 students in the class, each is required to complete a 60 to 80 hour internship over winter break, in various cities around the United States. New York City is the most popular destination, but others will be in Kansas City and California.

Students going to New York City include:

Peyton Baldwin (Real Simple)
Travis Brown (Details)
Danae DeShazer (Time Out New York)
Laura Evers (The Knot)
Megan Heffley (Redbook)
Susan Schwarz (Shape)
Gina Souders (Nylon)
Kim Wallace (Women's Health)
Irina Yakhnis (In Style)

Check back in January for updates from the students about their adventures in New York City!
